Our journey to create the top-rated coccyx seat cushion in the market began in January 2016, when our customer feedback center colleague, Sam, communicated a common customer demand to the R&D team. Many customers and colleagues were experiencing discomfort and even lower back pain from prolonged sitting at desks, in cars, or after lumbar pelvic surgery or extended wheelchair use. Our team was determined to find a solution.

To gather the necessary insights, our market researcher, Robin, spent 60 days visiting various healthcare facilities, gathering data and feedback. After 177 design optimizations and with the guidance of Dr. Leon, we settled on a U-shaped hollow cushion design, as the cutout would prevent direct pressure on the tailbone.

Our engineering department then worked tirelessly, making 10 improvements to the mold, until we landed on a cushion size that would fit most customers. However, we understood the challenge of creating a one-size-fits-all solution, as individual needs can vary.

Collaborating with Dr. Leon Davis, we developed the perfect ergonomic solution: a gel-infused, memory foam cushion with aero-tailbone support. By enhancing the NASA-inspired memory foam with increased density, we created a material we call "Ifoam" – comfortable, soft, and exceptionally supportive.

After 180 days of dedicated work, we presented our creation to Sam, our customer feedback champion. His vision was clear: the cushion needed to be comfortable, supportive, and not flat, while also considering factors like heat buildup, ease of transport, and anti-slip properties. Though his requirements seemed daunting, we were determined to meet and exceed them.

In May 2016, we launched a small-scale internal test of the CYLEN Ifoam Coccyx Seat Cushion. To our delight, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the cushion earning a remarkable 4.5 out of 5 stars from over 100,000 customer reviews. However, we knew that perfection was still within reach, and we eagerly awaited more customer input to help us improve further.
